New Regulations Restrict the Transport of Firewood

According to a notice published by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and sent to all RV Parks, Campgrounds and Parks, drastic steps are being implemented to slow the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) . This is a an invading species of insect that has done untold damage to the population of Ash Trees throughout North America including Ontario. It is now against the law to move ash or firewood from infested areas.

There is a major risk of spreading this insect through the movement of infested firewood. Campers and Cottagers who bring firewood with them to campgrounds, hunting cabins or fishing locations may unknowingly spread the Emerald Ash Borer to these sites and beyond.
